Who can join the conversation groups?
The language Meet-ups are open to anyone aged 18+, from native speakers to those who can hold at least a basic conversation in the language. (If you prefer to think in terms of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), they're for anyone from level A2 to C2.) The groups are friendly, inclusive and very informal - no one's here to judge you.
Is there a teaching element to the Meet-ups?
No. These are not language classes. Instead, they provide a regular chance to get together in a relaxed setting to use and improve your language skills through natural conversation. We encourage native and more advanced speakers of the language to help those who are at an earlier stage in their language journey.
Is there a charge?
No. All Meet-ups are free. However, as local venues in Duxford kindly offer their space for free, we do ask that all participants buy at least one drink during the evening to support those local businesses.
When are the meet-ups?
The Meet-ups are held once month on a Tuesday evening, 7:30pm-9:30pm, in a pub or bar in Duxford.
Who runs these groups?
The sessions are hosted by Eddie Copeland, a Duxford local, who happens to like learning languages.
How do I hear about each session?
We use a WhatsApp group to share details of each session. When you register your interest in joining, you'll be asked for your mobile number to be added to the group.
How long have these been running?
The Duxford French Conversation Group started in February 2023. We're just now exploring appetite to start a Spanish Group, which would likely start in August or September 2026.
